Week 35 & 36: Upcoming Field Trip - Thursday, June 7

A permission slip will be coming home this week for an end-of-year trip for Grades 4 & 5 students to the Ottawa Athletic Club on Lancaster Road. We have done this trip in previous years, and the students have really enjoyed it! The OAC has staff to facilitate various sport centres for the children to try, and this year we are including a swimming period as well. In previous years, they have done such varied sports as tennis, golf, basketball, squash, racquetball, circuit training, and karate, all under the supervision of trained staff. They also have Certified Lifeguards at the pool. We will be leaving St. Clare at 9:20 a.m. and return by 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 7. The permission slip will include a list of items to bring. There will be no cost for this trip due to the amazing generosity of our wonderful parent council, who are paying for the admission to the OAC and part of the bussing. The remainder of the bussing fees will be paid from the activity fees paid at the beginning of the year. Thank you, Parent Council!

Week 34: May 14-18 Happy Mother's Day!

Last week was Education Week, and what very busy week it was! We had activities and events almost every block of every day, from Aboriginal Storytellers to French Bingo, Musical Theatre presentations to math challenges and nature scavenger hunts! Whew! I was so proud of the students and how hard they worked to perfect their moves for their Musical Theatre dance, "Greased Lightning"! They were amazing! And they worked so hard on the LED paper circuit Mother's Day cards so that they would light up just for Mom.

This week, we are mostly back to normal. We have a special presentation by the OCSB Children's Choir, featuring one of our own students, on Tuesday afternoon. On Thursday, some of our students are going to the Peace Festival.
Friday is a PD Day for students.

Have a great week!

This upcoming week is Education Week and we have a lot of events planned for the students (and parents).

Wednesday: Drop & Bop 2nd block, and we will be displaying our Kindness Through the Arts activities in the gym

Thursday: we will be performing our Musical Theatre Dance numbers for the parents. Parents, grandparents, etc are invited and welcome to attend their child's performances. We suggest that surnames A-L attend the a.m. performance starting at 9:45 a.m., and surnames M-Z attend the afternoon performance starting at 1:30 p.m. Don't forget - girls are wearing white t-shirts or blouses, a gingham skirt (supplied), black leggings or shorts and a jean or leather jacket if they have one. Boys are wearing red t-shirts (supplied for most), jeans or dark pants, and jean or leather jackets if they have one. I hope to see you all there!

Friday: We will have French Bingo 2nd block, Drop & Bop 3rd block, and a Gallery Walk of the Kindness Through the Arts display in the gym 3rd block with follow-up activities 4th block.

Each day will also have an Education Week Prayer, and there will be a school-wide math inquiry in the learning commons on display. There will also be some chicks hatching in kindergarten! It should be a very exciting week, highlighting Catholic Education!
